First photo: A Maui Fire Department honor guard carries Trucker Dukes’ casket from the auditorium at Hope Chapel in Kihei to a waiting vintage firetruck for his final ride to Valley Isle Memorial Park & Cemetery in Haiku on Friday afternoon. Trailing the honor guard are Trucker’s parents, Joshua and Shauna Dukes, and his three siblings. Trucker, whose battle against cancer touched people around the world, including celebrities, politicians and athletes, was an honorary firefighter for both the Maui and New York City fire departments. He lost his battle with an aggressive form of cancer called neuroblastoma on March 3, five weeks before his fourth birthday. Around 1,500 people attended the service, including firefighters and first responders from New York, New Jersey, Canada, Australia and Oahu. Men and women in uniform formed ranks and saluted as the casket was carried to the firetruck and secured.
