Initially Cade wanted to play for Notre Dam. However, he later broke his promise and decided to play for Michigan, mostly because of Michigan’s head coach Jim Harbaugh. Even though he entered in the third quarter of the game, He threw a touchdown pass to Mike Sainristil on his first drive in the game.

McNamara led a comeback that ended with a triple overtime victory by the score of 48-42, on 21st November 2020. The comeback was the largest in Michigan History. He started his career as a quarterback in a match against, Penn State but unfortunately, he suffered an injury and lost the match. He played in the 2020 season, where he led Michigan to win over Ohio, a Big Ten Championship.
Before the 2022 season, he competed with J.J. McCarthy for the position of Michigan’s starting quarterback. So McNamara started n the first week against Colorado State and McCarthy started in the second week against Hawaii. By the end of 2022, McNamara entered the transfer portal.
